San Francisco Pride Celebrations
Since the first march in 1970, the San Francisco Pride Parade has evolved from a grassroots demonstration on Polk Street into one of the world's largest and most significant LGBTQ+ gatherings. As the birthplace of the iconic rainbow flag, San Francisco remains a global epicenter for the movement, with the annual festivities anchored by the Sunday parade and including in recent years a several light installations across the city. The WELCOME light installation is officially the world’s largest rainbow flag and is visible overhead from the Ferry Building up the parade route on Market Street, over the Castro and onward to Twin Peaks.
